D’Antonio is a tenured Full Professor of Biochemistry and Structural Biology at the University of South Carolina Beaufort that specializes in medicinal chemistry for neglected tropical diseases. Since 2013, he has been teaching a variety of courses including Principles of Biochemistry, General Chemistry I and II, Quantitative Analysis, Forensic Techniques and Data Analysis, and Biological Principles. His research includes a team of undergraduate researchers that utilize a variety of techniques ranging from analytical chemistry, biotechnology, enzymology, structural biology, and synthetic chemistry. Structure-based drug design and screening approaches are his principal techniques in developing new classes inhibitors for enzyme drug-targets found in parasites of trypanosomatid diseases.

Dr. Barry is a PhD economist and lawyer, and is currently a tenured professor of economics at Mount St. Mary' s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Prior to coming to Mount St. Mary’s, Dr. Barry served in various positions in government and the private sector. He spent five years as an international economist with the U.S. International Trade Commission, for which he spent significant amount of time in China, Taiwan, the former Soviet Union, Asia, and Eastern Europe. He has also served as an economist for the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Commercial Law Development Project in Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Croatia. During 1996-97, Dr. Barry was an economist for the U.S. Department of the Treasury, working as an advisor to the Russian Ministry of Finance in Moscow. He has also worked as an associate at a major international law firm in Washington, Paris, and Moscow. While at the Mount, he has worked as a legal advisor with a team advising the government of Sri Lanka on a peace agreement with the Tamil Tiger rebel force. Dr. Barry holds 6 degrees in economics, Russian, law, and public policy from Georgetown University, The University of Maryland, American University, and the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Other professional experience includes work as a COBOL computer programmer, a sailing instructor on Lake Michigan, and in the Baltimore office of the Maryland State office of the Public Defender. Dr. Barry has served as a visiting professor in China, India, and Russia, and has worked or studied in more than 40 countries. He is fluent in Russian, and has studied Mandarin Chinese. He is married to Alla Barry of Uzbekistan, and they live in Bethesda, Maryland with their two boys, Luka and Tim.

Working in biogeochemistry and ecology, Professor MacAvoy has been particularly interested in how nutrients and contaminants flow through, and are incorporated by, aquatic ecosystem components. Research and consulting activities have taken him to the deep ocean, the West Indies, Europe and 12 USA States. Stephen MacAvoy obtained his PhD from the University of Virginia in 2000 and conducted post-doctoral work at the University of Georgia. He joined the faculty of American University in 2003 and was Chair of the Department of Environmental Science from 2016 to 2022. Recent journal articles have appeared in Applied Geochemistry, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Ecological Engineering and Marine Mammal Science. He is currently conducting research on the geochemistry of urban rivers and the resilience of aquatic invertebrates to climate change. In 2022 he co-authored the book "Climate Change, Science, and the Politics of Shared Sacrifice" with Professor Todd Eisenstadt in the School of Public Affairs.
